ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Our Pre-K program provides children with opportunities to make meaningful choices, practice skills, ask questions, solve problems, express creativity and develop confidence as learners, preparing them to become productive, successful citizens.
As the year unfolds, your child will be learning many new things and continuing to strengthen skills already learned. The activities we use, even those that seem like play, are designed to teach the children skills needed for success in school. Encourage your children to discuss or share some of the activities done in class.
What do children do in a Pre- Kindergarten class?
The casual observer may see a group of children simply playing. What they are really seeing is learning in action. In whole groups, small groups, or individually children are exposed to a wide variety of experiences through activity centers such as:
· Blocks – where math and science concepts are learned
· Dramatic Play – where important social skills are developed
· Sand and Water - where science and problem solving skills are sharpened
· Library – where early reading skills and a love for books can develop
· Writing - where ideas can be expressed in written form
· Art - where creative expression and exploration are encouraged
· Physical/Motor - where large and small muscles develop and strengthen
By the end of the school year, your child should be able to do the following:
Follow directions Share ideas and life experiences
Finish a job Express him/herself through music
Enjoy rhythms and art Respect feelings of others
Dramatize or role play Obey cheerfully
Enjoy books and stories Care for self and belongings
Increase readiness for reading Use good health habits
Listen Understand and use numbers/size
Practice safety Increase motor coordination
